Back To Basics

Although I watch little TV, last night I happened upon “Mystery Diagnosis”.  A young boy had frequent (often daily) vomiting and constipation.  His parents were told repeatedly that he had a virus.  His health care team did not want to subject him to “invasive” diagnostic tests.  But, finally when he was 3 years old, they did an x-ray.  (upper GI?).  They found a diaphramatic hernia which allowed his stomach and large intestines to migrate into his chest.  With all due respect,  I would like to ask other heath care professionals “Do you auscultate breath and bowel sounds?” In this high tech field, let’s not forget the cost effective, informative “low tech”.
