Marshfield Clinic, a north central Wisconsin Clinic with almost 800 doctors, is being rewarded in a big way for taking better care of patients and saving Medicare a whole lot of money.
The fact that our “health” care providers are paid more for more interventions is not news. Now that health care costs have reached “epidemic” proportions, we are finally beginning to address this.
A medicare project which included Marshfield aims to find a better way to pay doctors as a means of managing health care costs. The project rewards clinics who save money while meeting standards of quality in the care they provide.
In the first year, Marshfield saved Medicare $12.6 million. Their share of the savings amounted to $4.6 million; he second year, they saved Medicare $13.1 million. Their share could total $5.8 million.
