I’ll be very interested to learn more about the CA mother of 6 who thanks to IVF has 8 more children.
Some time ago when I was doing research o support the use of my “Preparing for Surgery” CD (to reduce health care costs) I discovered much to my surprise that the costs of fertility treatments, OB care and premature births far outweighed the costs for surgeries or end of life care. Think about this. A totally natural process has been transformed into a “disease” if you will.
Let’s talk about the underlying cause of much infertility. The Fight or Flight reflex, a primitive response to stress, among other things prevents pregnancy. This is very appropriate response. If there is stress in a civilization caused by famine or external threats, does it make sense to bring another life into the equation? No. Much alleged infertility could be eliminated by managing stress. I see this happening as treat clients with hypnotherapy. Whether I privde private sessions or a $17 CD, we tap into the mind body connection and pregnancy occurs. Back in September, I somewhat reluctantly gave out a CD “Fertility Enhancement for Couples”. I say reluctantly because this woman was under huge amounts of stress. I have to admit i wasn’t sure that in this case the relaxation would work. But, to my delight, on Christmas Eve, I learned that she is pregnant. The use of a CD has just eliminated the need for fertility treatments In cases such as this, there may be no need to mess with nature, just remove the stress. This one simple, comforatble evidence based modality has just saved thousands of dollars. In addition, they is no increased chance of multiple births using this method.
Now, I have to wonder how this woman was screened and approved to receive IVF. And, what thought process led to the implantation of 8 embryos? Or, were there less and they split? Whatever happened, this is a very costly scenario. How costly? Based on the limited information I can glean- at least $8,000,000.
I’ve heard about some countries that ration health care dollars. They maximize the return on their investment by spending it where it will do the most good. As we struggle with health care funding, I have to think that this should be certainly be a consideration.
